Privacy Policy

Pace is built privacy-first. Your training plan, your runs, and your progress live on your device and in your own Apple Health — not on our servers. This page explains exactly what that means, in plain language.

Plain-language promise: Pace is built and run by Philip Larsson, an indie developer in Sweden. The app works without an account. We don't sell your data, we don't track you across other apps, and we don't build an advertising profile of you. The sections below are the detail behind that promise.

1The short version

  • On-device by default. Your chosen plan, completed workouts, streaks, and settings are stored locally on your iPhone.
  • You own your health data. Runs are written to Apple Health with your permission. Apple Health is controlled by you and Apple — not Pace.
  • No sign-up to use Pace. The app never asks for your name or phone number. You can optionally give us your email for feature updates — nothing else.
  • No ads, no data sale. We have no advertising SDKs and never sell or rent personal information.

2What we collect

Because Pace runs without an account, most information never leaves your device. Here's the full picture:

Training data
The plan you choose, workouts you complete, dates, durations, intervals, custom workouts, and streaks. Stored on your device only.
App settings
Coach voice, theme, units, and reminder preferences. Stored on your device only.
Workout metrics
Workout duration and heart rate — written to / read from Apple Health only if you grant permission (see below).
Purchase status
Whether you've unlocked Premium, verified through Apple via RevenueCat. We never see your payment details.
Anonymous usage
Aggregate, non-identifying analytics about how the app is used (PostHog, EU). On by default; never tied to your identity.
Email (optional)
Only if you subscribe to feature updates. Stored by Brevo (EU). Nothing else is required.

We do not collect your contacts, photos, precise location history, or browsing activity. We have no crash-reporting SDK.

3Apple Health

If you grant permission, Pace writes your completed workouts to Apple Health (so they count toward your Activity rings) and reads your heart rate during a run to show alongside your workout history. You choose what Pace may access, and you can change or revoke it any time in Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Pace.

Health data stays with Apple. Information Pace reads from or writes to Apple Health stays between your device and Apple Health. It is never transmitted to our servers, never shared, and never used for advertising.

4Email updates (optional)

If you choose to subscribe to product updates — through the signup on our website or in the app — your email address is sent to Brevo, an email service based in the EU. We use it for one thing: to send occasional updates about new features (less than once a month).

You can unsubscribe any time using the link in any email, or email us at pace@philiplarsson.dev to be removed. Brevo stores data on EU servers under GDPR — privacy policy.

5Anonymous analytics

To understand how the app is used and improve it, Pace sends anonymous product analytics to PostHog (an open-source analytics service hosted in the EU). This is on by default. Events are tied only to a random, app-generated identifier — never to you — and include things like:

  • When you open the app
  • Which workouts you start, complete, or end early
  • When you finish a week of your plan
  • When the paywall is shown, and whether a purchase is made

What is not sent: your name or email, your Apple Health data, your IP address (PostHog is configured to discard it), or any advertising / cross-app identifier (IDFA). Because this data carries no personal identifiers and can't be traced back to you, we only ever use it in aggregate. PostHog stores data on EU servers under GDPR — privacy policy.

6Purchases

Pace is free to download. An optional one-time Premium unlock — not a subscription — adds after-5K plans, extra coach voices, and themes. Payments are processed entirely by the Apple App Store through your Apple ID; we never see your card number, billing address, or Apple ID.

We use RevenueCat to validate purchases and keep your unlock working across reinstalls. RevenueCat receives your App Store purchase receipt tied to a random, anonymous identifier — not your name or email. RevenueCat privacy policy.

7What we don't do

  • We have no servers that store your personal training or health data.
  • We do not track you across other apps or websites.
  • We use no advertising SDKs — no Facebook SDK, Google Analytics, or AdMob.
  • We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information.
  • We do not use Apple's advertising identifier (IDFA).

We share data only with the services named above (Apple, RevenueCat, PostHog, and Brevo if you opt into email), and only as described. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users — and only to the minimum extent necessary.

8Our website

This website (pace.philiplarsson.dev) is intentionally lightweight and privacy-respecting. Fonts are self-hosted, so loading a page sends no request to Google Fonts or any other third-party font service — nothing about your visit is shared with them.

The website sets no advertising or tracking cookies and runs no third-party analytics. The only data it handles is the optional email signup described above, and only if you choose to use it.

9Your choices & rights

  • Delete everything instantly. Removing the app deletes the training data stored on your device.
  • Control Health access any time in iOS Settings.
  • Unsubscribe from email via the link in any message we send.
  • Data rights (GDPR / CCPA). You can ask what data we hold (for most people that's just your email, if you subscribed — analytics and purchase records carry no identity), request a copy, or request deletion. Email us and we'll respond within 30 days.

10Children

Pace is intended for people aged 13 and older and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we'll address it.

11Changes to this policy

If we update this policy we'll revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, surface a notice in the app's release notes. Continuing to use Pace after an update means you accept the revised policy.
